FIRST LOOK AT BEYONCE’S NETFLIX DOC: The film centering around Beyonce‘s headline-making headline performance at Coachella last year will drop on Netflix April 17. The mega-streamer offered the first look at the project, which features interviews with Beyonce and her team, footage of rehearsals and behind-the-scenes images of her and her kids. Beyonce will also voice Nala in Disney‘s hotly anticipated Lion King remake, out July 19th.
JOANNA KULIG JOINS THE EDDY: Cold War star Joanna Kulig is set to co-star in Damien Chazelle‘s Netflix series The Eddy. She will star opposite Andre Holland. The series is being billed as a musical drama set in contemporary Paris and focuses on a club, its owner (Holland), its house band and the beautiful but chaotic City of Lights.
SNL RATINGS UP: With Kit Harington as host and Sara Bareilles as the musical guest, Saturday Night Live‘s ratings spiked. Deadline reports that the NBCshow averaged a 4.4 Live+Same Day household rating in the metered markets, and a 1.7 adults 18-49 rating in the markets with local people meters. That was up from the week’s previous episode hosted by Sandra Oh with musical guest Tame Impala, which tied for a season’s low (4.1, 1.5).
RUSSIAN DIRECTOR FREED: Kirill Serebrennikov has been freed from house arrest in Russia after 20 months of detention. He must stay in Moscow and faces trial in the $2 million fraud case. He was accused of embezzling state funds from an avant-garde theatre he runs, Gogol Center. Speaking to reporters outside the court, the director said he looked forward to the day “when this nightmare ends and we prove our innocence,” per The Hollywood Reporter.
