KAMLOOPS — The biggest fundraiser for the Kamloops Symphony Orchestra is on now at the former Value Village downtown.

The semi-annual Barb’s Used Book and Music Sale began Saturday and will run through April 20.

The event raises money for operating costs for the KSO.

The sale raises around $70,000 a year, which is almost 10 per cent of the annual budget.

“Without it, we would not be putting on as many concerts or something would have to change drastically, so it’s really important to us,” said KSO Executive Director Kathy Humphreys. “And, I think it’s really well-known, really popular, and really important to the community too.”

About a dozen volunteers have organized all book and music donations in specific categories arranged by author or artist in alphabetical order.

Donations continue to come in throughout the sale event.

“You can see by looking around how many donations we receive from the community,” Humphreys said.

“Every single time, like twice a year, it boggles the mind that you would be able to get donations of this quantity and quality, and we make a lot of money from this sale that’s really really important to maintaining our organization.”
