WEST KELOWNA — A Kamloops woman is now facing possible charges after a series of reckless driving incidents in the Okanagan.

In a release today, West Kelowna RCMP say yesterday (April 6) around 8:30 a.m, an officer was in the middle of a traffic stop with another vehicle along Highway 97 south of Peachland, when someone driving a red Ford F350 pickup truck allegedly passed the police vehicle at a very high rate of speed.

More police officers responded to try and intercept the suspect vehicle before it got to West Kelowna.

Shortly after, RCMP received a report of an attempted car-jacking near Renfrew Road in Peachland. Police believed this involved the female driver of the red Ford pickup truck they were still searching for.

Officers in unmarked police cars found the suspect vehicle south of Peachland, headed southbound towards Summerland.

While travelling below the posted speed limit, the suspect unknowingly flagged one of those unmarked police cars to pass her.

“Additional marked and unmarked patrol units moved in and surrounded the suspect vehicle, when police believed it was safe to do so,” states Cpl. Jesse O’Donaghey of the Kelowna Regional RCMP. “Our officers were forced to box the suspect vehicle in, after the driver attempted to reverse and flee.”

Once police immobilized the vehicle, the woman driving climbed out of her passenger side window to try and avoid police capture, however she was taken into custody a short distance away.

“Thankfully no one was injured during the unfolding of each of the events,” adds Cpl. O’Donaghey.

Investigators recovered drug paraphernalia from the woman’s vehicle, and are continuing their investigation.

A Drug Recognition Expert (DRE) was called upon to see if the woman was under the influence of drugs.

She now faces potential charges, including criminal impaired operation of a motor vehicle, and is expected to appear in Court at a later date.
