Glacier Media purchases Kelowna-based Castanet

KELOWNA — Glacier Media, owner of the local news website Kamloops Matters, has announced the purchase of Kelowna-based Castanet.

Purchase price is reported at a total of $24 million.

Launched in 2001, Castanet is a news website focused on the Okanagan, with staff in Kelowna, Vernon and Penticton.

It now boasts more than 50 staff and recently branched out into radio, operating SOFT 103.9 FM in Kelowna.

Besides Kamloops Matters, Glacier owns media properties such as the Victoria Times Colonist and the Prince George Citizen.
