Two new wildfires in Kamloops Fire Centre

KAMLOOPS — Two new wildfires have sparked in the Kamloops Fire Centre.

According to BC Wildfire Service, both were discovered yesterday and are fairly small in size.

One fire sparked at the north edge of Nicola Lake near Merritt, and is estimated to be 0.01 hectares at this point.

The other fire is just west of the community of Westwold, north of Douglas Lake Road. It’s also estimated at 0.01 hectares.

There’s no word yet on what may have caused the fires.

Two wildfires near Chase were sparked over the weekend. The Kamloops-Shuswap Road fire grew to 250 hectares and the River Flats fire was estimated at 100 hectares.

BC Wildfire says both of those fires are now considered under control.
