Delay in Elephant Hill wildfire RCMP investigation
ASHCROFT, B.C. — The RCMP investigation into the Elephant Hill wildfire in the summer of 2017 has been delayed.
CFJC Today filed a Freedom of Information Request with the Ministry of Forests, Lands, Natural Resource Operations and Rural Development earlier this year, asking for the cause and origin report for the fire.
The response to the request states that the records are being withheld in their entirety, due to potential harmfulness to law enforcement if they are disclosed.
The Ministry says the RCMP investigation has been delayed due to “unforeseen circumstances” and will now likely conclude in late May of this year, nearly two years after the wildfire sparked near the Ashcroft Indian Reserve.
