Transit open-house provides opportunity for feedback

KAMLOOPS — BC Transit and the City of Kamloops are gathering public input in order to shape the future of transit services in the city.

A couple of open-houses Wednesday (Mar. 27) provided opportunities for Kamloops residents to have their say.

The information will be used to refresh the 2012 Transit Future Plan.

“We’re coming back to the public now with a number of priorities and initiatives that we’re looking to update in this next iteration of our planning document and we’re just asking a few questions about it and getting the public’s input,” said Cheryl Fraser, transit planner for the City of Kamloops.

Questions varied from which routes need to be focused on, to which transit facilities should be improved.

While the afternoon’s open-house at TRU was open to everyone, it was a chance for transit planners to hear directly from students.

“Student input is huge,” Fraser said. “Our ridership numbers are quite high when it comes to TRU, especially at the Transit Exchange here down at Dalhousie. We’re trying to get as many people as possible out to this and hopefully between the hours of 12-4 and 5-7 they can stop by and drop in and give their opinion.”

Residents can also share their thoughts through an online survey on the City of Kamloops website.
