KAMLOOPS — A pickup truck for a local road contractor was damaged after being hit in Kamloops.

The Ministry of Transportation says early Tuesday morning (March 26), a commercial vehicle crashed into an Argo pickup truck that was doing traffic control for sweeping activities in the Kamloops area.

The crash temporarily closed the southbound lanes on Highway 5 between Shuswap Road and River Street.

“We would like to remind all drivers to obey traffic control personnel at all times, and to slow down while travelling through work areas,” the ministry’s email statement reads.

Kamloops RCMP say the rural detachment respondent to the incident just before midnight March 25.

“An Argo Road Crew was working in the southbound lane and had blocked the lane with numerous signs,” Kamloops RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Jodi Shelkie says. “A tractor trailer travelling south rear-ended an Argo Crew Truck sending the truck over the bank with the driver inside.”

Both drivers were taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, and the driver of the semi-truck was issued a violation ticket for driving without due care and attention.

“Kamloops RCMP asks all motorists to drive with caution at all times of the day,” Shelkie says. “Spring brings more work crews onto the highways and it’s important to be alert to signs redirecting traffic. Remember to slow down and move over into another lane when passing emergency vehicles and work crews.”
