Kamloops nears record-high temperatures

KAMLOOPS — It was the warmest March 20 this century for Kamloops — but temperatures weren’t quite record breaking.

Environment Canada forecaster Bobby Sekhon says the all-time record for that day was set back in 1892.

“The second warmest March 20 for Kamloops was at 18.9 C in 1940,” he says, noting that yesterday’s temperature nearly reached that.

The springtime weather is expected to stick around for the time being.

“We are hanging on to some warm weather for the next couple of days, however into the weekend we do have a slight shift in the pattern and we’ll see some showers around the Southern Interior in general on Saturday,” Sekhon says. “Temperatures will get a little bit lower but still remaining pretty close to seasonal, and then next week we bounce back again with some drier conditions and temperatures hanging either around normal or just above normal.”

Sekhon also reminds people spending time outdoors to start thinking about sun protection.

“Especially for anybody who’s skiing or anything late in the season, watch out for the UV since we’ve got sunny clear skies, the sun’s got some kick this time of year, so don’t forget that sun screen when you’re out and about.”
