STEVEN SPIELBERG AND NETFLIX ARE MEETING: Peace? Steven Spielberg and Netflix‘s Ted Sarandos are making nice after exchanging barbs over whether or not the streaming service should be considered for Oscars. (Spielberg believes the megastreamer’s films should be considered for Emmys; Netflixdisagrees). The Hollywood Reporters‘ spies tell the pub that the pair are making progress in their talks; but TBD which way the wind will blow. Do you think Netflix films should be considered for Hollywood’s highest honor?

GOLDEN GLOBES SETS 2020 DATE: The Hollywood Foreign Press Association has set January 5thfor its 77 annual Golden Globe Awards broadcast. The show will air live on NBC, the second show in its current eight-year deal with NBC. Last year’s show saw a 4% rise year-over-year in viewership, a rarity among awards shows these days. Green Book won big in 2019, as did Roma and Vice.

FREDDIE PRINZE JR. TO STAR IN NANCY DREW PILOT: Freddie Prinze Jr. is set to lead opposite Kennedy McCann in the CW‘s untitled Nancy Drew treatment inspired by the iconic series about the brilliant young detective. The show centers on the 18-year-old Nancy (McCann) in the summer after high school. Prinze will play her father. The 2007 movie starred Emma Roberts as Nancy Drew, with Carson Drew played by Tate Donovan.

SOPRANOS PREQUEL GETS TITLE, DATE: New Line‘s Sopranos prequel is officially titled The Many Saints of Newark, and is expected to hit theaters September 25th, 2020. Series creator David Chase is co-producing and writing. Alan Taylor is directing. During the six seasons it ran on HBO, the show garnered 21 Emmys and 5 Golden Globes.
