Sunshine, warm temps coming to Kamloops in time for first day of spring

KAMLOOPS — It has so far been a cool month of March for Kamloops and the B.C. Interior — but that trend is about to change.

Environment Canada meteorologist Carmen Hartt says sunshine and above normal temperatures are on their way.

“We have high pressure dominating the weather pattern for the next week or so,” said Hartt. “With that, we’re expecting a lot of sun and some milder air to come in and dominate the forecast. That’s what’s going to bring those temperatures up this weekend, gradually increasing every day and then peaking with the early part of next week.”

Hartt says daytime high temperatures that have been consistently below normal in Kamloops will rise considerably.

“The normal high temperature in March is around 11 C in Kamloops. We look back at this month, and we actually haven’t really seen that until (Wednesday). So we’ve been in the cold trend all of March, and of course as we remember, all of February as well,” said Hartt. “So we finally hit normal and we’re just blowing right through and going into above normal temperatures beginning this weekend.”

Spring officially begins next week, and Hartt says it’s perfect timing for a change in the weather.

“It seems like spring is right on the time. The official first day of spring is going to be next Wednesday, March 20. So we’re just seeing this mild trend right in time for the first day of spring.”
