Captain Marvel Shatters Box Office

Captain Marvel astounded with a $153 million opener at the box office this weekend, easily landing in the top slot and registering the biggest opener this year by far (it’s the first to soar past $100 million). It marks the seventh biggest opener in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and the second-biggest debut for a new character, behind Black Panther.

Captain Marvel, played by Brie Larson, depicts a part-human, part-Kree warrior who remembers parts of her life on Earth as she fights in Kree’s Starforce.

How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World and Tyler Perry’s A Madea Family Funeral took second and third place respectively.
