Another dusting of snow on the way for Kamloops

KAMLOOPS — Temperatures may be warming up, but we haven’t seen the last of winter yet.

Environment Canada meteorologist Bobby Sekhon says starting around midnight tonight (March 11), a system approaching the Southern Interior will lead to some snowfall.

“We’ll see snow beginning kind of after midnight and we’ll see a couple of centimetres overnight,” Sekhon says. “Then before it tapers off tomorrow morning we’ll see a couple more, so maybe about four centimetres total for Kamloops by tomorrow around noon.”

Through the mountain passes, including the Coquihalla Highway, slightly more snow is expected.

“We do have five to 10 centimetres in the forecast for tonight for the Coquihalla, and then again for tomorrow it should taper off in the afternoon,” Sekhon says. “However there will be two to four centimetres more, so in total you can expect up to seven to 14 centimetres through the Coquihalla area.”

Although mild temperatures are in the forecast for Kamloops, Sekhon says snow will likely accumulate because it will be falling overnight.

“Accumulations will vary based on where you are and what surface the snow is falling on,” he says. “Temperatures have been milder than they were in, say, February and… it is going to be falling overnight when temperatures are going to be cooling off. So you could still get some accumulation. But again, we’re not expecting large accumulations in through that area.”
