Jonas Brothers Epic Week

Mar 8, 2019 | 5:00 AM

The Jonas Brothers wrapped up their week on The Late Late Show with James Corden last night with their segment of “Carpool Karaoke.”

Joe, Nick, and Kevin joined host James Corden for a drive where they did some singing, opened up about their breakup, and were all hooked up to a lie detector. The trio – who just released their much-anticipated comeback single, “Sucker” – discussed their early rise to fame on the Disney Channel, detailed what prompted their breakup and what it was like being ridiculed for wearing purity rings when they were teenagers.

Nick admitted it’s his fault the Jonas Brothers broke up.

“Everyone knows it was Nick,” Corden jokingly said during the car ride, to which Nick replied, “I broke the band up, but I got them back together.” “It’s true, it was a full redemptive story,” Kevin chimed in.

When asked what it took to get the brothers to give things another try, Nick revealed it all came about while they were filming their upcoming Amazon Studios documentary.

“Basically, about a year ago we started talking about making a documentary together. That was the start of it – just to tell our story, our childhood and into our career together. In that process we did some necessary healing, because you know when things ended it wasn’t the best,” Nick explained. It was around that time that they realized “there was a magic when we were together that we would all like to feel again,” according to Nick.

However, picking things back up wasn’t easy, so the brothers used a drinking game to help express their emotions.

“We played a drinking game actually, which really helped open things up. We wrote down questions in a bowl and had to pick them out,” Nick said.

Meanwhile, the brothers said they started wearing purity rings when they were around 12-years-old as a commitment to waiting to have sex until they met the right person. Joe also shared that it wasn’t something they wanted to talk about publicly, but when a reporter called out their rings, they decided to talk about them.

“We were in an interview one day, the guy asked about them, we were like, we don’t want to talk about them, and he’s like, ‘Well I’m just gonna say you’re in a cult’. And we’re scared to death, this is one of our first interviews, so we’re like, fine, we’ll talk about it.” Joe recalled.

Some songs the guys sang included old Jonas Brothers hits like “Burnin’ Up,” “Year 3000,” “When You Look Me in The Eyes,” and “Love Bug” while they also sang their newest hit “Sucker.”

In the midst of the drive, the boys got hooked up to a lie detector test. The juicy reveals included Joe admitting that Kevin gets on his nerves the most, Nick saying there was a point in his many wedding ceremonies to Priyanka Chopra where he was over all the weddings. “It was when I looked at the bill,” he joked.

On Wednesday, the brothers shared the side effects of forming a band with your brothers. The sketch was part of Corden’s recurring “Side Effects May Include” segments, in which various celebrities list the downsides of their particular occupations. In their case, side effects of starting a band with your brothers may include:

– Staggering the years you go through puberty so someone can always hit the high notes.

– Fighting on the road and hearing your dad say, “I swear I will turn this tour bus around right now.”

– Writing a song about how annoying your brothers are, but having to save it for your very, very successful solo album.

– Being able to call your Verizon family plan a business expense.

– Not being able to make “yo mama” jokes when you’re fighting.

– Reuniting because you and your brothers spend so much time together anyway, so you might as well make a bunch of money off of it.

Corden and the Jonas Brothers then rattled off a list of side effects related to getting the band back together, which included:

– Asking your bandmates if it’s cool playing one of your very, very successful solo songs.

– Telling your bandmate, “No, it’s not cool.”

– Still having tons of minivans outside the venues, but now your fans are driving them.

The guys closed out their residency with a performance of “Sucker.”
