Celebrate International Women’s Day
Ed Sheeran, Dua Lipa, Hozier and Mary J. Blige are among the artists participating in a short film organized by Eurythmics frontwoman Annie Lennox to mark International Women’s Day on March 8th.
Created in partnership with Apple Music and her charity The Circle, the film serves to promote the concept of #GlobalFeminism by highlighting the injustices suffered by women worldwide, such as misogyny, violence, assault, pay disparity, illiteracy and poor health.
“Next to Me” singer Emeli Sande, Oscar nominee Richard E Grant and Game of Thrones star Gwendoline Christie are among the other celebrities participating in the film, which shows each person holding up a sign showing an alarming statistic or fact about women worldwide. Participants shared their favourite songs inspired by visionary women with Apple Music for an exclusive #GlobalFeminism playlist.
The film is set to “Sisters Are Doin’ it for Themselves,” a hit 1985 duet Lennox recorded with Aretha Franklin for Eurythmics’ album Be Yourself Tonight.
