Snowfall forecast for Kamloops this week could be the last we see of winter

KAMLOOPS — Environment Canada says snow expected in the B.C. Interior over the next few days could be our last blast of winter for the season.

Forecaster Bobby Sekhon says lingering flurries are forecast for the Kamloops area starting tonight, with as much as five centimetres falling before the system moves off Friday morning.

Daily high temperatures will hover around the freezing mark, or a couple of degrees above.

“With the temperature being so close to zero, you’re not going to get as much dry, light, fluffy snow. It may be a little bit more dense,” said Sekhon. “That’s another reason why we’re not expecting large accumulations.”

Starting Friday and into the weekend, Sekhon is forecasting sunshine and mild temperatures.

“Our seasonal averages for the high temperature in Kamloops is 9 C and the average low is -2 C. As we get into Sunday night, we start to see that low of -2 C and Monday has a high of 10 C,” said Sekhon. “So there you go; it’s pretty close to average by the end of the weekend into early next week.”

Kamloops has seen a late winter, with a colder and snowier February than normal.

Sekhon says, after this week’s snowfall, spring-like conditions are on their way.

“For the near term, it does seem that way. We’re not expecting any precipitation after this next blast passes on Friday. We’re expecting dry conditions going into at least early next week.”
