Johnny Depp Suing Amber Heard

Johnny Depp has launched a $50 million defamation suit against ex-wife Amber Heard, People reports. He claims she lied about him abusing her, and furthermore, claims she cheated on him within one month of their marriage in 2015 with Tesla founder Elon Musk.

He claims Heard received “late night” visits from Musk at the L.A. home Depp and Heard shared while he was traveling.

The 55-year-old’s suit against his 32-year-old ex reportedly stems from an op-ed she wrote for the Washington Post in December in which she said: “I spoke up against sexual violence – and faced our culture’s wrath. That has to change.”

IMPACT ON THEIR CAREERS

While she didn’t name Depp in the article, the allusion was clear, considering she’d accused him of abuse during their divorce. Depp’s lawyers are claiming the piece “depends on the central premise that Ms Heard was a domestic abuse victim, and that Mr. Depp perpetrated domestic violence against her,” according to legal documents seen by People magazine.

Depp claims that Heard was motivated solely by career advancement, and that he has “87 newly obtained surveillance camera videos” which “conclusively refute” the abuse allegations. Her story made her a “darling” of the #MeToo movement, the suit claims, and because of that, she was “hired by L’Oreal Paris as its global spokesperson.”

His career, he claims, has been damaged by the allegations and led to him being dropped from his lucrative role in the Pirates of the Caribbean films.

HEARD IS THE ABUSER?

The claim adds: “Ms. Heard is not a victim of domestic abuse, she is a perpetrator.” Depp reportedly says he had to have a finger re-attached after Heard through a vodka bottle at him.

Their divorce was finalized in January 2017 and Depp has consistently denied claims of abuse.

Heard’s rep told People in response: “This frivolous action is just the latest of Johnny Depp’s repeated efforts to silence Amber Heard. She will not be silenced.

“Mr. Depp’s actions prove he is unable to accept the truth of his ongoing abusive behaviour. But while he appears hell-bent on achieving self destruction, we will prevail in defeating this groundless lawsuit and ending the continued vile harassment of my client by Mr Depp and his legal team.”
