Kawhi Leonard scores 38 points, as Raptors edge Trail Blazers 119-117
TORONTO — The Toronto Raptors had practised the play a day earlier. Game on the line. Kyle Lowry sets a screen. Kawhi Leonard drives for the winning basket.
They executed it to perfection on Friday.
Leonard poured in 38 points, including the winning baseline jumper with three seconds to play, to lift Toronto to a thrilling 119-117 victory over the Portland Trail Blazers.
“It was great. It was almost exactly (how they practised it),” said coach Nick Nurse. “I think I have 14 seconds on the clock coming up the floor. Tie game. Kyle sets a screen and we try to get the smaller guy (Damian Lillard ended up being that smaller guy) so he can just vault up over him and shoot.”
