“My dad hates me.”
Bebe Rexha is clearing up some things about her relationship with her father after she posted a screencap of a distressing text message he sent to her.
Following the release of her new “Last Hurrah” music video, Bebe’s dad texted her and said, “You better stop posting stupid pornography because you make me sick. I can’t take this anymore.” Her dad added that he’s “embarrassed to go in public” and that he’s “very upset” with Bebe.
Bebe posted the screencap on her Instagram Stories and captioned it “My dad hates me,” along with the palm to the face emoji. In a tweet she later wrote, that has since been deleted, Bebe said, “Don’t say mean things about my dad please he is an amazing father. I should of never have posted that screenshot. I’m disappointed in myself. I was being sarcastic.”
“I understand where he is coming [from] as a father and that’s why the text was a bit harsh. I am upset that he still isn’t speaking to me, but he is still my father,” she added.
On Tuesday, Bebe spoke to TMZ about the ordeal at the airport, as she prepared to go visit her father in New York, who she said hadn’t talked to her in two weeks. “The video is a lot,” admitted, adding, “My fans are getting a little too intense, they’re saying some mean sh*t about my dad.”
“I checked my fans. My dad is my dad no matter what, he might have said something heated in the moment. I feel dumb for showing the screenshot. I was being sarcastic with my fans but my fans are going a little crazy over the text screenshot I sent. You guys need to respect my father, he’s my father since day one. My music video is a little crazy and out there.”
The “Last Hurrah” video features a great deal of racy content, including dancers grinding, making out, sexual innuendos, and even a part where Bebe lies on a bed with crosses around her and “Daddy’s Angel” written across her crotch.
Apparently, Rexha’s dad isn’t the only one who has a problem with her “Last Hurrah” music video. YouTube flagged the footage as “sensitive.” Following the news that the video had been flagged, Bebe shared her thoughts on Twitter and explained that she was in no way ashamed over the sexy content and argued about the double standards in music.
“I am woman who is living unapologetically. I’m not gonna be made to feel bad about making ART,” the singer wrote in a tweet. “And yes art to me is my beautiful ass out, boys kissing boys, girls kissing girls, crosses on my body. IF A MALE RAPPER PUT OUT THAT VIDEO OUT IT WOULD BE FINE.”
She continued: “The only person I would apologize to for this video is god if I offended him in any way. But I wrote this song with a pure heart. And wanted to portray how We are all fighting our temptations. No one is perfect. Thats why we turn to god. God created sex. And I like sex.”
