KAMLOOPS — The third of four individuals to be honoured as inductees into Kamloops Sports Hall of Fame in May has been announced.

Longtime track enthusiast Ted Pierson will be inducted along with sportscaster Earl Seitz and Rugby Club builder Paddy Harrington.

Pierson will be inducted posthumously. He passed away in August of 2000, a week before he was scheduled to compete in the World Senior Games in Kamloops.

Pierson was celebrating his 70th year in track and field at the time of his passing.

At the age of 26, he just missed making the British team for the 1948 Olympics, but won the Ireland javelin titles from 1949-51 and two national decathlon titles during that span.

He came to Kamloops in 1965 and quickly became part of the track and field fabric in the city.

He won 9 gold medals in the B.C. Games and won gold in the javelin and shot put events at the Canadian championships.

He was also heavily involved in promoting the Special Olympics and other community events.

This year’s Hall of Fame induction ceremony will be held May 11th at the Coast Canadian Inn. Also to be recognized are the athletes, teams and sportspeople of the year.

Tickets for the event go on sale in March.
