Alessia Cara Opening for Shawn Mendes

Alessia Cara is set to open for Shawn Mendes this year as the special guest on his upcoming world tour.

The two stars will travel around the world together, hitting cities in the United States, Canada, and Europe. The tour kicks off in March in Amsterdam and the U.S. leg kicks off in June.

Shawn announced the news by finding a tweet he wrote in 2013 in which praised Alessia and asked his fans to help find her Twitter. Alessia then replied, “A fan before I had fans I’m emotional.”

“Alessia cara Stan since 2013,” he wrote. “I hope that’s how you use the word stan…”

Announcing the tour on Twitter, Alessia wrote, “Come hang with a bunch of Canadians. we’re nice.”

The two Canadians were both discovered online as teens.

Shawn’s also added 16 shows to the North American leg of the tour, including second concerts in Chicago, L.A., Boston, Montreal and Brooklyn, New York. Pre-sales for the new tour dates start February 23rd and continue through March 1st. The public on-sale date is March 2nd.
