MILE 81 HEADS TO BIG SCREEN: Stephen King‘s hair-raising novella Mile 81 is headed for the big screen. Alistair Legrand (Clinical) will direct. Legrand and Luke Harvis (The Diabolical) wrote the script. Production will begin in the fall, and casting is underway. The story follows 12-year-old Pete, his brother and a group of stranger as they fight off mysterious foes at a boarded up rest stop.
IFC PICKS UP THE TRUTH: In the first big film deal to emerge from Berlin’s European Film Market, IFC Films has snagged The Truth, from Japanese auteur Hirokazu Kore-eda, director of last year’s Cannes Palme winner Shoplifters. The family drama stars Catherine Deneuve and Juliette Binoche as mother and daughter, alongside four-time Oscar nominee Ethan Hawke as Binoche’s American husband. Said IFC Films: “The Truth undoubtedly blends the finest talent working in cinema from across the globe today and we could not be more excited to present the film to North American audiences. Director Kore-eda, Catherine, Juliette and Ethan are all long-standing members of IFC family and it is a dream come true to partner with talent of such regard on one project.”
CHILD’S PLAY TRAILER RELEASED: Orion Pictures has released the first official trailer for its modern Child’s Play reboot. This time around, interactive tech and modern toys add layers of fright. Directed by Lars Klevberg and written by Tyler Burton Smith, Child’s Play will land in theaters on June 21.
SPONGE BOB‘S ‘SWEET VICTORY’ SURGES: SpongeBob SquarePants‘ “Sweet Victory” has made a super-size gain in streams, thanks the cartoon’s cameo in the February 3rd Super Bowl halftime show. Only about eight seconds of “Sweet Victory” was featured when Travis Scott was introduced during the Maroon 5 halftime show. (Many said SpongeBob stole the lackluster show).
