Cause of Rayleigh house fire to go down as ‘undetermined’

KAMLOOPS — The cause of a fire that engulfed a home in Rayleigh Monday may never be known.

The blaze completely destroyed a family home on Sabiston Crescent.

Kamloops Fire Rescue’s Kevin Cassidy says inspectors know where the fire started, but there are problems accessing the origin point.

“The cause of the fire is undetermined at this time, due to the structural integrity of the house from heavy fire damage and water damage. It’s not safe for fire investigators to enter that room to get a closer look at what caused the fire,” said Cassidy.

The home was fully ablaze when KFR crews arrived, and it took several hours for them to control the flames.

Cassidy says the family’s insurance company may choose to investigate further.

“They have means to rebuild portions of the house to make it safer for them to do the investigation if they wish to do so,” said Cassidy. “It’s up to the insurance company.”
