Rock slide north of Summerland causing some traffic chaos

SUMMERLAND — RCMP were kept busy dealing with travellers getting stranded on unplowed back roads while trying to get around the rockslide that still has the highway shut down north of Summerland.

Mounties and search teams had to rescue motorists from the back country, and turned around dozens of other vehicles that were using Google Maps for what turned out to be unreliable road information.

With the highway closed, drivers can use a forest service road off Highway 33 that will take an extra 90 minutes .

That’s for light traffic only.
