Colder temperatures arrive in Kamloops over weekend

KAMLOOPS — Environment Canada recommends bundling up, with colder than usual temperatures in Kamloops this weekend.

Meteorologist Louis Kohanyi says today (Feb. 2) the local area will have some clouds bring in a 60 per cent chance of flurries, along with wind.

“We are looking at westerly winds gusting up to 60 (km/h),” He says, “The temperature is going to fall to minus 6 this afternoon, and the windchill is going to be around minus 13 this afternoon.”

That windchill will continue to drop overnight, according to Kohanyi.

“Still going to be windy (tonight), we’re looking at westerly winds gusting to 60 (km/h) with a low of minus 11,” He explains, “Which will generate a windchill of minus 13 this evening, and minus 21 overnight.”

Tomorrow will have a chance of snow, bringing in about 2-4 centimetres.

Throughout the weekend, Kohanyi says Kamloops and the surrounding area will experience some unusually chilly weather, with the normal low for this time of year being minus 6 and a high of plus 2.

“So we’re looking at temperatures below normal beginning tonight,” He explains, “Expecting a low of minus 11, and normal for this time of year is minus 6.”

Kohanyi says the cold temperatures likely won’t let up in the beginning of next week either.

“If you are going outside, make sure you are wearing warm clothes.”
