NDP consolidates its hold on power after Nanaimo byelection
NANAIMO — The New Democrats survived a key test of their minority government last night, comfortably winning a byelection in Nanaimo.
A Liberal win would have tipped the balance of power in the legislature and put Premier John Horgan’s government on shaky ground.
But New Democrat Sheila Malcolmson continued the party’s grip on the riding, defeating B-C Liberal Tony Harris.
Horgan said the byelection result shows voters support his government’s policies and are a validation of what the N-D-P has been doing since it took power 18 months ago.
