Alanis Morissette is heading to Broadway.The singer-songwriter has allowed songs from her 1995 breakthrough album Jagged Little Pill to be used in a new musical and producers plan to land it on Broadway this fall.Jagged Little Pill played the American Repertory Theater last summer. It’s directed by Diane Paulus and has an original story by Diablo Cody, who wrote Juno. Morissette wrote the album with Glen Ballard, who collaborated with Dave Stewart of the Eurythmics on the music for Ghost: The Musical.Also called Jagged Little Pill, the musical will feature songs from the Grammy-winning album, as well as new songs written specifically for the project. The musical focuses on The Healys, a suburban family who must decide whether to maintain their seemingly perfect-picture life, or “face truths about themselves and the world around them.” It features such songs as “You Oughta Know,” “Head Over Feet,” “Ironic” and “Hand in My Pocket.”Alanis says the musical “has been nothing short of a revelation, a balm and an arrival for me,” adding, “It is a culmination of so much of what my life’s work has been oriented toward.” She notes, “The entire [creative] team is the dream-come-true collaboration…Grateful does not even come close to how I feel throughout this journey thus far. This process is tinged with giddiness, terror, surrender, wild passion, joy and light.”Fans who sign up at JaggedLittlePill.com by February 11th at noon will receive a link to an exclusive first-listen song from the musical: a studio version of “All I Really Want” performed by the cast. SAM SMITH & NORMANI UNVEIL ‘DANCING WITH A STRANGER’ VIDEO ON APPLE MUSIC: Sam Smith and Normani’s “Dancing With a Stranger” video has made its debut via Apple Music. “I said to her, ‘Do you wanna hear this song?’ I played her the song,” Smith recalled in an interview with Beats 1, explaining how their duet came to be. “I saw her Billboard performance … When I saw her do that on the Billboard Awards, I was like, ‘Wow.’ She’s a triple threat. She’s special. And you can tell that she works really hard. When she came into the studio, she just jumped on the song there and then with me in the room. LADY GAGA HASN’T CONFIRMED PERFORMANCE SLOT ON THE GRAMMYS YET: Lady Gaga is nominated for Best Original Song at the Oscars, and most assume that she and Bradley Cooper will perform their hit duet “Shallow” on the telecast. Gaga is also nominated for Record and Song of the Year at the Grammys for “Shallow,” but it isn’t set whether she will perform there. Billboard reports that an “offer is out” to Gaga to perform on the February 10th Grammy telecast, but she hasn’t confirmed yet. Recently, the Screen Actors Guild accused the Motion Picture Academy of “exerting extraordinary and unwarranted pressure on talent to hold them from appearing at other award presentations” – which means some stars are being told that if they appear on other shows, they can’t appear on the Oscars February 24th. The Academy hasn’t responded to the accusation.
MILEY CYRUS & MARK RONSON PERFORM ‘NOTHING BREAKS LIKE A HEART’ FOR ELLEN’S 61ST BIRTHDAY: Miley Cyrus and Mark Ronsonmade a special appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show on Monday. The two hit the stage to perform their collaborative hit song, “Nothing Breaks Like a Heart.” Miley and Mark also celebrate Ellen’s 61st birthday. Miley rocked earrings of Ellen’s Time magazine cover where she came out. “One of the million reasons why you’re just inspiring and I’m always happy to be here and be on your show,” Miley said.
