City looking to recover costs for damage caused to overpass by logging truck
KAMLOOPS — After a logging truck attempted to maneuvre its way under a rail passing in downtown Kamloops earlier this week, the city says it’s hoping to recover the costs for damages.
Glen Farrow is the city’s streets and environmental services manager. He says piping mounted beneath the overpass at First and Lansdowne was severely damaged after the truck’s load struck it.
Farrow says some of the piping has essentially been eliminated in that section, but the repair is expected to be fairly minor.
“It’s hard to say, we’re working on cost estimates as we speak, even the staff time and availability… in dealing with traffic control and cleaning up the log and such, there’s probably a greater cost in that than the actual repair for that drainage pipe,” Farrow says. “We will be looking to recover those costs through the process — if that’s ICBC, if that’s the company involved — that’s what we will be pursuing rather than the taxpayer being on the hook for that.”
