Calgary’s Cavalry FC sign four more players to Canadian Premier League roster

CALGARY — Cavalry FC has added four more players to its Canadian Premier League roster, including Calgary Foothills FC alumni Dean Northover, Nico Pasquotti and Carlos Patino.

The other signing for the Calgary-based club is goalkeeper Niko Giantsopoulos. 

Northover, Pasquotti and Patino, all midfielders, helped the Foothills to the Premier Development League championship in 2018.

“Dean is a terrific player and should have been playing professionally before now,” Cavalry FC coach and GM Tommy Wheeldon Jr., who coached that Foothills team and has dipped deep into its roster for the new CPL side. “Having worked with him for five-plus years now, he is a very consistent player with exceptional control and one-vs-one defending.”

Northover also played for the SAIT Trojans.

Pasquotti scored the winning goal in the 2018 PDL final and was named MVP. He has also played for the Lethbridge Cosmos, Calgary Chinooks, Lethbridge College and Lethbridge University.

“Nico is a really exciting player that adds exceptional pace and drive to our team,” said Wheeldon. “He’s someone who will excite the fans and inspire his teammates.”

The Colombian-born Patino, a midfielder, also played for Seattle Sounders 2 in the USL and in Sweden for Vanersborgs IF.

Giantsopoulos played NCAA soccer at Calvin College, where he was a Division III all-American in 2014, before signing with Devonport City Strikers of Australia’s Tasmanian Northern Premier League.

Already signed by Cavalry FC are Nik Ledgerwood, Serge Camargo, Chris Serban, Elijah Adekugbe, Marco Carducci, Dominick Zator and Oliver Minatel. The team also has U-Sports prospects Gabriel Bitar, Joel Waterman and Easton Ongaro. 

The seven-team CPL is scheduled to kick off in late April.
