B.C. wants to take action against money laundering-needs Federal help
VICTORIA — British Columbia’s attorney general says the provincial government wants to take action against money launderers as quickly as possible, but “needs the feds along for the ride.”
David Eby says he is more confident after a meeting yesterday with Organized Crime Minister Bill Blair, after failing to get any action when he brought the problem to the attention of other federal cabinet ministers and in meetings with his provincial and territorial counterparts.
But he says the provincial government and Peter German, who is a former Mountie conducting a second review of money laundering in the province due in March, still need more information from R-C-M-P.
He says within the last two days, R-C-M-P told German that he will get what he needs, but he also wants information the Mounties already passed on to the Financial Action Task Force, a body of G-7 countries fighting money laundering, terror financing and threats to the international system.
