Interior Health reminding Kamloops residents to get flu shot
KAMLOOPS — There are still several months left in this year’s flu season, and Interior Health is reminding the public it’s not too late to get the flu shot.
People of any age are at risk of influenza, Interior Health says, but those with chronic medical conditions, young children and people 65 and older are at increased risk of complications.
IH says influenza activity is increasing across the region. The dominant strain this year is influenza A H1N1, which predominantly affects children and non-elderly adults. This strain is included in this year’s vaccine.
“The flu shot is the best way to protect yourself and your loved ones from influenza and influenza-related complications,” said Dr. Silvina Mema, Medical Health Officer for IH. “This year’s vaccine has shown to be a good match for the strains of influenza circulating this season.”
