Imagine Dragons, Lil Wayne and an Elvis Tribute

Jan 9, 2019 | 5:15 AM

Imagine Dragons performed during halftime of the College Football Playoff National Championship Monday night. The set included an appearance from rapper Lil Wayne, who joined the band for a performance of their hit “Believer.”

The song was officially released after the show.

Imagine Dragons opened with “Natural,” then followed up with “Thunder” and a short transition to “Bad Liar.”

The initial cool tones of the set abruptly changed to red flashing lights as Lil Wayne, wearing a large, black fedora and a multicolored fur coat, introduced himself with a rock rendition of his energetic “Uproar,” from his 2018 album Tha Carter V.

Imagine Dragons and Lil Wayne then debuted a new version of “Believer.” “It’s Weezy the Dragon, I link with the Dragons/And we gon’ get ratchet, no need for Imaginin’/This is what’s happenin’,” Wayne rapped.

The Elvis All-Star Tribute will air February 17th on NBC.

The show was taped in October, and features stars of various musical genres, including pop artists like Ed Sheeran, John Legend, Shawn Mendes, Josh Groban, Jennifer Lopez and Adam Lambert, rapper Post Malone, and country stars like Blake Shelton, Keith Urban, Kelsea Ballerini, Little Big Town, Pistol Annies, Darius Rucker and Carrie Underwood. Elvis’ widow Priscilla Presley will appear on the special, as will his daughter, Lisa Marie Presley.

The special, hosted by Shelton, will create the look and feel of The King’s legendary ’68 Comeback Special, where he performed both stand-up, rocking numbers and a more intimate, stripped-down set wearing black leather.

Along with the special, an album called The Best of the ’68 Comeback Special will be released on February 15th. It’ll include 15 Presley performances from the ’68 broadcast, three studio recordings of songs that appear in the special, and a new version of “If I Can Dream,” feature Elvis’ original vocals plus those of Underwood, Mendes, Rucker, Shelton and Malone.
