JOSH BROLIN CELEBRATES 5 YEARS SOBRIETY: Josh Brolin is getting real about sobriety as he celebrates five years on the wagon. The 50-year-old took to Instagram to share a throwback image from a drunken night out. “Drunk: when you think you’re having a rip roaring time and the next morning you wake up and your brain has broken into a frenzied beehive and your body is shattered shards of sharp glass desperately searching for what fits where and your spirit is being eaten by worms with great white bloodied teeth and your heart has shriveled into a black prune churning your intestines to the point where dysentery feels attractive,” he began. “And you can’t remember anything you did so you roll out of bed over last night’s urine and you dial your best friend’s phone number because you recall him lifting you over his head, your whole self, before you hit and broke through the drywall and, you think, a large aquarium,” Brolin continued. “And the phone on the other end rings and he picks it up, that clambering for a phone, the clumsiness of a hardline, and you say: ‘What did I do last night?!’ and he answers, after a great pause: ‘…Dude…’. #5years.”
MAHERSHALA ALI CLAIMS BILL MURRAY DUMPED VODKA ON HIM: After taking home the best supporting actor trophy for his work in Green Book at the Golden Globes, Mahershala Ali had a run in with Bill Murray that cracked him up. As he tells Ellen DeGeneres on her eponymous show: “Bill was toasting us. Bill toasted his glass on Viggo’s head, Linda’s head, and then toasts on my head and vodka spills all over my face and is running down into my eyes and in my mouth. And I’m doing the whole interview with an eye closed. Vodka in the eye … it felt like hot acid rolling down my face.”
NO WOMEN NOMINATED FOR OUTSTANDING ACHIEVEMENT BY DIRECTORS GUILD: Some observers are crying fowl, noting the dearth of female nominees for the Directors Guild of America announced the nominees for Outstanding Directorial Achievement in Feature Film and Outstanding Directorial Achievement of a First-Time Feature Film Director in 2018. Among the nominees: Bradley Cooper, A Star Is Born; Alfonso Cuarn, ROMA (Netflix); Peter Farrelly, Green Book; Spike Lee, BlacKkKlansman (Focus Features); Adam McKay, Vice (Annapurna Pictures); Bo Burnham, Eighth Grade (A24).
JOSH MURRAY APOLOGIZES FOR LIKENING EX TO DEVIL: Not funny. Josh Murray is apologizing after posting an image of his ex-fiancee and former Bachelorette star Andi Dorfman with a devil emoji over her face. In a since-deleted post, the 34-year-old shared an image of himself proposing to Dorman on the finale of her season. He posted the shot ahead of the premiere of The Bachelor. After the backlash, he posted a series of semi-apologies on Instagram Stories. “Anyways, so I’m probably gonna have to take that down, I’m getting in trouble for it. A lot of people, at least my friends, they’re like ‘No, leave it up,’ but I mean, if it’s hurting people’s feelings I don’t ever want to do that. So anyways, good talk. Glad we could have this conversation and I’ll see ya out there.” Murray and Dorfman split in 2015.
