Police warning Kamloops skiers to keep equipment out of unoccupied vehicles
KAMLOOPS — After a rise in more destructive thefts from vehicles in the city, Kamloops RCMP are warning outdoor enthusiasts about leaving equipment in their vehicles.
Kamloops RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Jodi Shelkie says the detachment is continuing its “Lock out Auto Crime” initiative, and in recent patrols of vehicles in residential neighbourhoods officers and volunteers have noticed several vehicles with ski equipment left inside.
Many of the vehicles were locked, Shelkie says, but the equipment was in plain view.
She adds that there has recently been a rise in theft from vehicles where entry was gained by breaking a window. In all cases, items were stolen that had been left in plain sight.
