KAMLOOPS — Councillors will meet around the horseshoe in Kamloops Tuesday for the first meeting of 2019.

One major point of discussion will be another proposal for a performing arts centre in the city. Long-time supporter of the idea and president of the Kelson Group, Ron Fawcett, will be in front of council today (Jan. 7) to discuss the idea.

Fawcett has already pledged $5 million toward the vision.

Council will also receive an update on the progress of the city’s Corporate Asset Management Program, specifically in the area of civic buildings.

The report also focuses on the fact that the City Hall building is “approaching the end of its functional life.”

One of the recommendations in the report is to apply for a grant through the provincial government in order to try and help fund the necessary work that needs to be done.

Former councillor Donovan Cavers also has a motion in front of council, regarding word choices and language internally. Cavers put 11 motions forward during his last council meeting.
