Kazakhstan stays, Denmark relegated at world junior hockey championship
VANCOUVER — Demid Yeremeyev made 25 as Kazakstan avoided relegation at the world junior championship with a 4-0 win over Denmark on Friday.
Sayan Daniyar and Davyd Makutski scored first-period goals for Kazakhstan, which swept the best-of-three series of the teams that finished last in their respective preliminary-round groups.
Artur Gatiyatov capped the game with two empty-net goals after Denmark pulled goaltender William Rorth in a desperate bid to find some offence and avoid being relegated to Division 1.
Kazakhstan, which beat Denmark 4-3 in Wednesday’s series opener, remains in the top group and will play in next year’s world junior championship in the Czech Republic. Denmark will be replaced by Division 1 winner Germany.
