Coquihalla likely to be slippery and slushy this weekend
KAMLOOPS — It’s been a mixed bag of weather to start off 2019, with temperatures becoming more mild after some heavy snowfall.
That could impact traffic on Southern Interior highways this weekend, including the Coquihalla. Environment Canada meteorologist Bobby Sekhon says some snow is in the forecast, but things could become messy on the roads with fluctuating freezing levels.
“It’s only going to be the summit that’s actually getting some snow today and some flurries into this weekend as well,” Sekhon says. “With the snow levels fluctuating and things getting warmer and cooler, there’s going to be some slippery conditions along the Coquihalla so certainly anybody travelling around there, even if the road looks clear, be sure to take caution with a potential for freezing on the surface.”
Sekhon says the next big weather-maker for the Coquihalla will come Sunday, when 10 to 15 centimetres of snow is predicted for the highway.
