Kamloops construction sector ends scorching 2018 at $285 million

KAMLOOPS — The Kamloops construction sector built its record year even higher in December.

With builders taking out $22.4 million in permits from the City of Kamloops last month, the year-end total for 2018 reached $285 million.

That is 27 per cent higher than the previous record of $224.1 million, set in 2017.

The bulk of December’s activity took place in the commercial category, at $19.7 million.

All told, the city issued permits for 837 residential units in 2018, with 77 per cent of those taking the form of multi-family apartments and suites.

Single-family construction was actually down in 2018, with builders taking out 131 permits, compared to 210 permits in 2017.
