Political Future for Angelina?

Angelina Jolie is considering leaving Hollywood for politics. In an interview on BBC‘s Today, she said she would have rejected the notion 20 years ago, but that now, considering the state of the world, she is reconsidering.

Jolie is a special envoy to the U.N. Refugee Agency, and appeared on Today Friday as guest editor. In a wide-ranging interview with Justin Webb, she talked politics and social media.

POLITICS:

Jolie said: “If you asked me 20 years ago, I would’ve laughed … I always says I’ll go where I’m needed, I don’t know if I’m fit for politics…but then I’ve also joked that I don’t know if I have a skeleton left in my closet.”

She continued: “I’m also able to work with governments and I’m also able to work with militaries, and so I sit in a very interesting place of being able to get a lot done.”

Jolie said that, like “most parents,” she struggles to monitor their activities online. “There are certain realities to teenagers and also our generation doesn’t understand half of what they are doing with their tech so they can get around us pretty easy.”

But no one on her family, she noted, is on Facebook.

Twitter has not embraced her possible run with the enthusiasm that, say, Oprah Winfrey‘s rumored entre into politics was greeted. Wrote one critic: “I think Schwarzenegger, Ventura and Trump have adequately demonstrated that inexperienced-but-famous ideologues are *terrible* for good government and public policy. Bring on the boring economists, agency administrators, proven lawmakers, and policy wonks, please.”
