Warm weather drawing holiday shoppers downtown

KAMLOOPS — With Christmas just days away, and no snow blanketing the streets of Kamloops, its appears shoppers are taking advantage of the warm weather.

Kamloops Central Business Improvement Association Executive Director Carl DeSantis says he’s been hearing from many downtown retailers that it’s been a busy holiday shopping season so far.

“Well let’s just take a look around (downtown), you see all these people here, it’s fantastic,” he says. “When you look around this time of year, we’re a week away from Christmas, and people are walking around in light jackets, and sweaters, so there’s a lot of pedestrian traffic, and that’s really good for downtown.”

While many choose to shop from home to escape the crowds, the in-person experience still draws many customers.

“Lets face it, there’s a lot of opportunity to buy online, but what we offer downtown, what our retailers offer downtown is face-to-face relationships, and that’s what they really focus on,” DeSantis explains. “There’s something to be said for that. You don’t have to worry about ordering online, whether or not it’s going to show up, whether or not it’s going to fit, whether or not it’s going to be what you thought it was. You can go in there and have a relationship, talk to the people that are working in these stores, and get exactly what you need.”

As shoppers continue to walk the downtown streets, retailers hope that momentum will carry into the New Year.
