Spring opening anticipated for new Kamloops SPCA facility

KAMLOOPS — A new facility for the Kamloops branch of the SPCA is taking shape, but it won’t be complete this month as originally planned.

The new 10,000 square foot animal care centre will replace the SPCA’s current facility and will include 12 apartments for dogs, five large cat rooms, assessment rooms, a large multi-purpose room and a spay and neuter clinic.

The SPCA is targeting a spring opening.

“Construction isn’t complete yet,” said Branch Manager Charleen Holloway. “They’re hoping to have that done the end of January, beginning of February. Depending on what that looks like we want to be completely ready to move over. We’ll move over some things slowly and then the last thing to move over will be the animals. Once we’re over there, then we’ll be open.”

Construction hit a bit of a snag when the windows were delayed with the manufacturer.

The SPCA is still around $370,000 away from their fundraising goal.

“We’re hitting that hard right now to get over that finish line. The community has done a great job in supporting us with that, so we just need that little bit to get over the finish line.”
