Championship games set at Fulton Cup

KAMLOOPS — It’s championship day at the Fulton Cup, the city high school basketball championships, and the favourite on the senior boys’ side, the Westsyde Whundas, match up against the defending AAA provincial champions on Friday night. 

The Whundas will play the South Kam Titans in the final at 5:45 to determine the senior boys champions in Kamloops. Westsyde is coming off a 74-54 semi-final win over Valleyview on Thursday night, while the Titans, who are a shell of last year’s championship team with the likes of Nick Sarai and Reid Jansen graduated, narrowly defeated 79-73 in their semi-final win on Thursday.

In the senior girls’ final, the No. 1-ranked South Kam Titans, who are tops in B.C. in the AA rankings entering this season, will playing against Valleyview for the championship. The Titans have been dominant through two games, outscoring both NorKam and Westsyde by a combined 159-64. The Vikes, meantime, have been great as well, outscoring their opponents 157-63. The game tips off at 7:30 on Friday night.

In both the junior boys and junior girls title games, it is Valleyview playing Sahali for the crown. The junior boys’ game goes at 4:15 and junior girls’ start at 4:30 at the Tournament Capital Centre.
