KAMLOOPS — RCMP are trying to track down a man who assaulted a Kamloops cab driver last week.

Cpl. Jodi Shelkie says it happened very early on the morning of Friday, December 14, near Seymour Street and Seventh Avenue.

Shelkie says the cab driver was stopping to pick up two women when a man approached him from the driver’s side, carrying a knife.

The driver took a swipe at the man, knocking the knife out of his hand but sustaining a cut in the process.

The assailant then punched the cab driver, went to pick up the knife and took off on foot.

Shelkie says it’s not clear what the attacker’s motives were.

The cab driver dropped the two women off at a motel before going to Royal Inland Hospital for treatment of his cut.

Description of suspect:

  • 6’0″ tall
  • short, dark hair
  • tanned skin
  • wearing a red hoodie with a DC logo on the front
  • carrying a green backpack

Description of second man who was with the suspect:

  • wearing a white hoodie with writing on it
  • carrying black backpack

Anyone with more information on the incident is asked to contact Kamloops RCMP at (250) 828-3000 or Crime Stoppers at 1 (800) 222-8477 (TIPS).

Shelkie says investigators tried to interview the two female customers, but they were no longer at the motel when investigators arrived.
