Modern Family star Sarah Hyland revealed that her 14-year-old cousin Trevor Canaday was killed by an alleged drunk driver on December 1st. He was riding with his father Clifford when Jeffrey Eggeling, 36, ran a red light and hit their car. He was arrested on suspicion of DUI.
“This is my 14-year-old cousin Trevor,” Hyland wrote on her Story on Sunday. “Yesterday, he was killed by a drunk driver. My Uncle is still in the hospital in need of more surgeries. PLEASE swipe up to help.”
Clifford is in critical condition. Hyland directed fans to a GoFundMe campaign to help cover her medical bills and expenses for Trevor’s funeral. While many, including co-star Ariel Winter supported her campaign, others were not as effusive.
One critic wrote, “I’m so sorry for your loss. But, explain why your [sic] asking others to donate?” Others also called her out for asking others to “donate to cover what is basically pennies for you?”
