Hundreds dust off ugliest holiday garb for second annual run

KAMLOOPS — The Christmas Spirit was in the Aberdeen air Sunday morning, as well over 200 runners and walkers took to the snowy streets, fields, and trails in some of the ugliest sweaters around

West Highland’s Park was decked to the halls in Christmas for the second annual Brennan’s Ugly Sweater Run. The event was first organized last year by Payton Comazzetto who wanted celebrate her brother Brennan’s legacy while helping raise money for the Boys and Girls Club Power Start Program, which provides breakfast for kids from low-income families.

“This year we had over 280 participants, so we increased our numbers by over double,” Comazzetto told CFJC Today. “We had great sponsors, great supporters, we were able to give away over $8500 in prizes. We’ve raised a ton of money for [the Boys and Girls Club], so it’s been all-around a great event.”

Comazzetto says because of the popularity of the event and the money that has been raised for the Power Start Program, she hopes to continue holding the Ugly Sweater Run in the years to come. She says it’s a great way to honour Brennan’s legacy, as well as bring other families together in a fun way to celebrate the holiday spirit.

“[Brennan] loved helping others and making an impact, so this is a way for me to… bring his legacy, continue it on,” Payton explained.
