KCBIA urges residents to shop local this Black Friday

KAMLOOPS — It’s sure to be busy all around Kamloops today as Black Friday deals take over local businesses and franchises, but the downtown business association is urging residents to shop local.

Ali Webster is the events, marketing and brand management specialist for Downtown Kamloops. She says massive sales days like Black Friday can have a major impact on local business.

“There’s always a positive impact in the community when folks shop local,” Webster says. “This is just a reminder and an opportunity for folks to take a few items off the holiday list early, maybe get a bit of a discount and really positively impact their community by supporting their friends, their family, their businesses.”

Webster says the economic benefits to the community are “immeasurable” when people choose to shop from local businesses.

“So this is a great opportunity for folks to rediscover the downtown core, experience the beautiful tree-lined streets we have,” Webster says. “The nice thing about shopping local is that typically you’ll find a business owner on the floor, ready to assist, and to provide an elevated level of service, right? When we shop online we don’t get to touch, we don’t get to feel, we don’t get to have that experience and experience the extra mile that these local shops really go to, to accomodate.”

Sales kicked off last night with local shops staying open until 8:00 p.m. during the downtown core’s first holiday event of the season — Lights in the Night.
