Chase RCMP investigating if rash of crimes is connected

KAMLOOPS — Police in Chase are trying to determine whether a string of crimes on Nov. 16 is the doing of the same suspects.

Cpl. Scott Linklater says police responded to a report of a break and enter and theft at the Art Holding Memorial Arena in Chase. Sometime overnight, suspects forced their way into the arena through a side door. Once inside, the suspects gained access to the ATM and stole money from within.

Just 20 minutes later, officers responded to a report of theft of gas from the Miner’s Bluff Road area in Pritchard. Sometime overnight suspects stole roughly 150 litres of fuel from a parked Kenworth dump truck.

“We’re still working on determining who the suspects are and if this is related to the break and enter and theft to the Art Holding Memorial Arena,” Linklater tells CFJC Today.

At around 2:35 p.m. the same day, Chase RCMP responded to a report of a man brandishing a knife at a home.

“He was known to the residents of the house, he was in there lawfully with them and he just determined to brandish a knife and make threats to others inside the residence with the knife,” Linklater says.

When police responded, a 35-year-old man was arrested and held in custody before a court appearance earlier this week.

Linklater says there’s no indication this crime is connected to the others, but police haven’t yet ruled out the connection.
