Lions Club Dog Bowl raises more than $2,900 for Dog Guides program

KAMLOOPS — Lion’s Clubs from across the region gathered at Falcon Lanes Sunday for the North Kamloops Lions Club’s third annual Dog Bowl Fundraiser.

The event helps raise money for Lion’s Foundation of Canada Dog Guides program, which helps provide service dogs to a variety of people in need. Over the past three years, the fundraiser has raised nearly $7,000 for the foundation, which according to event organizer Dale Brush will go a long way to help someone in need receive a service dog.

“A dog, to purchase for someone from here, you’re looking at $10,000 to $20,000,” Dog Bowl Organizer Dale Brush told CFJC Today. “[The Dog Guides Program] train it. They get it to where they train it for a person, then what we do is actually send that person… to Oakville, Ont. where they meet with the dog to make sure they’re compatible and train the dog and person to work with each other.”

This year’s Dog Bowl was the biggest and best yet, bringing in over $2,900. Brush says the event is a popular one with the various Lion’s Clubs around the city and region to get together for a great cause.

“It’s just an exceptional opportunity for our club to help out with the community,” Brush said. “A lot of our other Lions Clubs in town back [the North Kamloops Lions Club]. It’s a fun way to help our community, get a little exercise and have some fun.”
