KAMLOOPS — A Kamloops based chip and salsa company recently had one of their products make its TV debut.

Fresh Is Best Co-Owner Lisa Graham-McGaffin says some of their customers alerted them to a bag of their chips making an appearance on Season 12, Episode 8 of the Big Bang Theory last week (November 8).

The bag can be seen in the background on a kitchen counter, behind actress Mayim Bialik’s character, Amy Farrah-Fowler, during a scene in the episode.

“We’ve been working a little bit with a produce placement company out of California, and you never know if things will work out and they can say, ‘oh well we can do this or that, or whatever’,” She explains, “So we’d given them a bunch of product in the hopes something like this would happen, and it did!”

A fan of the show herself, Graham-McGaffin says they were hopeful their product would wind up making an appearance.

Since their first arrival at the Kamloops Farmers Market back in 1999, Fresh Is Best Salsa & Co now has a wide reach, with chips and salsa shipped throughout Western Canada, and beyond.

Graham-McGaffin says with experience in providing snacks to productions that come through Kamloops, the chips have caught the eye of people in the industry who have tried them.

“They’ve kind of drawn our attention to the opportunity that a lot of big brands like Triscuit or Ford Canada, they do product placements in movies or TV shows. So its just a new thing for us, but yeah, its kind of exciting.”

She says the online response has been great from how many people wound up seeing the chips on TV.

“Certainly, we as a company, do a lot of things, and we’re not sure how well they’ll be recieved or whether they’ll ever come to fruition,” She says, “It really kind of caught us off guard how having a product placed on a show like that, how much of an impact it has.”

They plan to continue getting their name out there, and seeing if their products can make it on the screen again.

“Theres a new show coming out that’s produced by Jennifer Aniston and Reese Witherspoon, and it’ll be coming out next year, and we’re on the production set of that show as well.” Graham-McGaffin explains, “The best thing would be to get somebody to start eating it or liking it.”

Expressing how grateful the company is for the local support, Graham-McGaffin says they were blown away by the feedback since the chip appearance.

“Its neat that Kamloops and the community and the Interior have embraced this product so much,” She says, “Its just very overwhelming to us, all the feedback and all the shared love of it all.”
