Curtis Sagmoen denied bail in Vernon
VERNON, B.C. — Applause broke out in a Vernon courtroom this morning after a judge turned down a bail request for a man accused of violence against a woman.
The decision means 38-year-old Curtis Sagmoen will remain in custody while he awaits a trial on charges from last year near Falkland, where he allegedly threatened a woman with a firearm while disguising his face.
“Mr. Sagmoen was ordered detained and Judge Guild gave an oral outline of his decision. He will provide written reasons on the 19th day of December, 2018 at 9:30 (a.m.),” says Dan McLaughlin from the BC Prosecution Service in an email to Beach Radio News.
More than a dozen protestors who held a rally on the courthouse steps to denounce violence against women, cheered the decision in the courtroom.
